About Us

Our mission is to empower youth through athletics with a foundation in self development and community.

FAQs

  • Smith Mountain Lake Youth Athletics is unlike any another local recreational option in several ways. As we are a local youth organization who only play other local teams, we have a heavy focus on self-development and community service. We are a separate entity from traditional county programs, as we are not county or state funded or managed. Each player and coach are held to much higher standards requiring your efforts to go beyond the field with your level of commitment.

  • No we do not travel out of the state or our region. All practices and home games remain in Moneta. We never travel to games or attend tournaments. Again, we are another local recreational option outside of the traditional parks and recreation option through the county.

  • Crusaders Club is our pre-season prep phase that runs from May to June. Crusaders Club includes community outreach involvement, youth development activities, team building events, fundraising event, and summer clinics. Most fundraising and community outreach will take place before the season begins.

  • Membership is not based on the county you live in. All counties and schools are welcome!

  • The best way to stay in touch with the SMLYA happenings is to follow Smith Mountain Lake Crusaders on Facebook and sign up for email notifications. We send out weekly sponsor highlights and events so you can stay up-to-date on all things Crusaders!

  • Registration is easy! Please follow the link at the very top of the home screen.

  • A small group of parents came together, leaving a broken county system, to form what is now SMLYA out of a need for our youth in our community. This allowed us to place only the highest standards of safety and discipline on not only our players but our coaches and parents while developing beyond the field for all walks of life. Our program is much bigger than sports.
